„My hands can produce images without knowing why they do it. Painting is in itself an absurd act—its irrationality can be an asset for the future.“
Born in Osaka, Na Kamura studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Jörg Immendorff. Her work navigates the rich intersections of Japanese and Western art histories, thereby deconstructing established pictorial conventions, reassembling them into compositions that elude categorization.
Na Kamura navigates the space between abstraction and figuration, allowing figurative elements to gradually reveal themselves. The nuanced dialogue between bold intensity of oil paints and the delicate softness of pastel tempera results in textures and forms imbued with a unique sense of depth.
Na Kamura’s has been the recipient of the Falkenrot Prize in Germany as well as the Prix Marcel Broodthaers in Belgium. Her works are part of various renowned institutional collections such as the Museum Haus Kasuya, Yokosuka, Japan; Bilbao Arte, Bilbao, Spain; Osthaus Museum, Hagen, Germany and the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle, Belgium, to name a few.
