Eliza Douglas is an American interdisciplinary artist whose work ranges from painting to performance. In their practice, Douglas often incorporates imagery from fashion, music, film and advertising to draw attention to consumption of art itself. In doing so, they often deploy familiar images of popular culture, like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and distort these through rich colours and compositions, exploring the material and limits of painting. This well-known imagery brings up questions of authenticity and originality, exploring the conceptual limits of painting and can be considered as meta-painting itself.
