Contemporary Fine Arts freut sich, die Ausstellung und Aufführung von Ulrich Strothjohann (*1954) mit dem Titel Deformation Improfessionelle, ein Projekt von Albrecht Kastein, anzukündigen. Das Projekt findet im ersten Stock unserer Galerieräume in der Grolmanstraße statt.
Ulrich Strothjohann, der seit einigen Jahren wieder in Berlin arbeitet, machte erstmals in den 1990er Jahren als Teil der Kölner Kunstszene auf sich aufmerksam. Diskret und pointiert legt er in mit seinen Werken Finten aus, stellt ironische Bezüge her, schafft hintergründige Allegorien und führt den Betrachter mit großem Spaß in die Irre. Sprache und das geschriebene Wort sind wesentliche Komponenten seiner Kunst, spielerisch ist sein Umgang mit Bildern und Begriffen. So ist der bewusst unkorrekt geschriebene Ausstellungstitel Umkehrung und Verballhornung des Begriffs ‘déformation professionnelle’, könnte aber auch als “Verformung, unprofessionelle” gelesen werden.
In einer einmaligen Weltpremiere wird die Ausstellung mit einer ca. 30-minütigen Aufführung, in welchen die Kunstwerke durch die Schauspieler Jeanette Spassova, Horst-Günter Marx, Jakob D’Aprile und Jan Koslowski praktisch „zur Anwendung kommen“, eröffnet. Die Schauspieler agieren während der Aufführung mit den Geräten und sprechen dazu kurze Texte, die teilweise improvisiert werden. So wird in Anlehnung an Strothjohanns Videoarbeit „Cleaners“ von 2007 etwa eine Person mit Kehrschaufel und Besen durch den Raum schlurfen und dabei vor sich hinmurmeln. Eine andere Person sitzt vor dem Tisch “Ein offenes Gespräch”, setzt den Ventilator in Schwung, schiebt gelegentlich beschriftete Papierblätter durch den Schlitz und leiert monoton Text herunter.
Die Eröffnung der Ausstellung findet am 2. März 2017 von 19-21 Uhr statt. Die Aufführung beginnt um 19:30 Uhr.
Contemporary Fine Arts is pleased to announce Ulrich Strothjohann’s (*1954) exhibition and performance „Deformation Improfessionelle“, a project by Albrecht Kastein. The project will take place on the first floor of our space on Grolmanstraße.
Ulrich Strothjohann, who has been working in Berlin again for the past few years, first garnered attention as part of the Cologne art scene in the 1990s. Discretely and pointedly, he inscribes his works with tricks, produces ironic references, creates mysterious allegories, and takes pleasure in misleading the viewer. Language and the written word are significant components of Strothjohann’s art, dealing playfully with images and ideas. In this vein, the exhibition title is deliberately written incorrectly to be a reversal and corruption of the term, ‘déformation professionnelle,’ though it can also be read as “deformation, unprofessional.”
The exhibition will open with a one-time world premiere of an approx. 30-minutes performance, in which the artworks will “come into being” through the actors Jeanette Spassova, Horst-Günter Marx, Jakob D’Aprile, and Jan Koslowski. During the performance, the actors will operate the equipment and read short texts aloud, some of which will be improvised. Following Strothjohann’s video work, “Cleaners” from 2007, someone will shuffle around the room with a broom and dustpan muttering to themselves. Another person will sit in front of the table “An Open Conversation,” turn the fan on, occasionally push sheets of paper through the slots while monotonously reciting texts.
The exhibition opens on March 2, 2017 from 7-9pm. The performance begins at 7:30pm.
